Note from Stephanie Horns, Our Faith Formation Leader

Hello!

Given the recommendation from the Archdiocese, Faith Formation classes for the remainder of the school year are cancelled. While official classes and instruction will not be held, I am encouraging you--the Domestic Church--to continue with instruction at home. I am going to provide you with tools to assist in this each week so please keep an eye out for those emails. I will also plan to be at the Convent this Wednesday from 5-6pm, if you want to pick up your child's (K-8th grade) workbook and use it as an additional resource. Continuing to do this instruction in your home on Wednesday nights would be a great idea, too!

For the 2nd grade families--First Reconciliation and First Communion are being rescheduled. First Reconciliation is set for June 20th with First Communion the following weekend on Sunday, June 28th. More information will be shared in the future.

Lastly, this brings my first year as director to a close. I came into the role completely overwhelmed as I revamped the program from the ground up and I complete my first year with my cup overflowing. Before classes had started I was asked what I thought my biggest struggle was going to be. My answer? It was you, the parents and guardians. I was worried I wouldn't have the support and patience I needed to run the program. But you have all proved me wrong. When I needed substitutes, you stepped up. When I needed parents to sit in on classes, you stepped up. When I needed treats and beverages, again you stepped up. You brought your amazing kiddos back week after week. You understood when communication over classes being cancelled the first time didn't go smoothly. You were patient when I said I'd get back to you soon and then a week or two later I finally got back to you. And so many of you ended your emails to me with a simple "thank you for all you do". It was a mere kind gesture to you but to me, those were the unexpected words that kept me going. So I thank you all for every bit of help or prayer you extended to me this year.  I have plenty of time now to determine what pieces I implemented were a success and what ones need to be tweaked. I've already been exploring new things to bring into our program, too. I am truly looking forward to seeing each one of your youth continue to grow in their faith journey year after year. Again, thank you.

Please reach out if you need extra resources on teaching your child at home or if you have any other questions.

Thank you and be well!
Stephanie

What Is the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) 2019

Picture
The National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) is held biennially and gathered 25,000 Catholic teens, parish youth ministry coordinators, bishops, pastors, parents, school campus ministers, adult chaperones, coaches, scout leaders, and diocesan leaders in 2017. The conference is sponsored by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) and offers a three-day experience for young people to encounter Christ, experience church, and be empowered for discipleship. NCYC offers opportunities for prayer, service, reconciliation, Eucharist, and recreation. NCYC began in 1983 as a regional conference, with sessions held on the East and West Coasts. NCYC was merged into a national conference in 1991. The 2019 NCYC takes place November 21-23 in Indianapolis with the theme Blessed - Broken - Given. For more information about the National Catholic Youth Conference, visit http://www.ncyc.info. Find them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/NationalCatholicYouthConference. If you are interested in attending please call Stephanie Horns, 563-568-1772.

Safe Haven Training for Parents

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), The Archdiocese of Dubuque takes seriously its call to provide the safest possible environment for all of our young people.  As part of that call, we provide information to parents to help them and all of us to be more informed of the issues and topics related to the abuse of children. It is our sincere hope that by partnering together we can continually provide the safest possible environment for all our young people to grow into healthy, Christ-filled adults.
We invite you to view the Catholic Mutual Group Training “Safe Haven - It's Up to You” videos that all employees and volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to complete.
As a parent you are invited to access these videos by following these steps:
1.             Go tohttps://dubuque.cmgconnect.org
2.             Register for a new account
3.             Select your school or parish location
4.             Select Role of “Volunteer”
5.             Select Participation as “Parent”
6.             Start the Training, “Safe Haven Training for Parents - Dubuque”
7.             Register you account
Parents who view the videos through the “Parent” section will not be required to have a background check.  Parents who wish to be a parish/school volunteer, averaging over an hour a week, are asked to participate as “Volunteer” (step 5 above) as this will automatically prompt you through the initial background check process.
